A CONFLUENCE OF EVENTS – COULD THIS BE THE PERFECT STORM?

• FED raising interest rate at June meeting – There is an increasing possibility that the FED could raise interest rates in the US very shortly. The impact of the last decision to raise interest rates was significant to the value of equities and precious metals. Such a decision could also impact Bond markets, so consider very carefully if interest rates do rise in the US, whether there will be an on flow effect domestically.
• The UK referendum to exit the EU (BREXIT). The EU economically is hanging on by a thread. If the UK decides to exit this will dramatically impact the economics of the EU trading block. This could create a “risk-on environment” which could significantly increase the value of safe haven investments, such as precious metals. Capital flows appear to already be moving to the US and out of Europe. The Euro has declined significantly against the USD since the beginning of May, signalling that the market is both concerned about a potential BREXIT and also has an increased expectation that the FED may raise interest rates.
• Domestically the RBA will meet again and will announce their interest rate decision on the 7^th of June. With the poor state of the Australian economy and recent disappointing data on domestic inflation and employment, the RBA Governor Glenn Stephens has stated recently that he is fully prepared to continue reducing interest rates. If Australian interest rates are further reduced the AUD could continue its recent decline against the USD. If this occurs it will significantly impact the AUD value of your precious metals.
